Steam Tables Moran

This file contains tabular thermodynamic properties for saturated liquid, saturated vapor, and superheated vapor in both English and SI units.  Source data is Moran’s Engineering Thermodynamics textbook.

An added value, beyond the tabular values, is an Excel method for interpolating between the tabulated property values automatically.  It is critical to preserve the tabulated data with the interpolation scheme, so you must Save As… to begin your own application when using both the steam table data and the interpolation schemes.

Another added value is a basic “learning tool” where the user enters two independent properties (the only way to determine the phase) and the phase of water/steam for the property pair is determined via automated analysis.

Steam Turbine Example Problem

This simple steam turbine analysis illustrates how to use Steam Tables Starter Kit (using Save As…) to create an easy Excel analysis of the power produced by a steam turbine with the inputs of:  Throttle pressure and temperature, exit pressure, isentropic turbine efficiency, and steam flow (lbm/hr).

Steam Tables Static

Static (xlsx) Excel file using source data from Ohio University.  Contains organized thermodynamic property data for saturated liquid, saturated vapor, superheated vapor, and compressed liquid.

There is no “interpolation tool” to determine non-tabulated properties.  It’s just tabular data in separate tabs for the engineer to utilize in his/her emerging application or problem-solving tool.

SteamTablesStarterKit

Macro-enabled Excel (.xlsm) file uses custom formulas and linear interpolation for steam property lookups.  Open this file and then use “Save As…” to save to a new filename to begin your own analysis application where you need to easily evaluate lots of thermodynamic properties (v, rho, u, h, s) for water or steam.  File:  SteamTablesStarterKit2022.xlsm
